Specializing in diseases of the retina, vitreous and macula, vitreoretinal surgery, diabetic retinopathy & ocular trauma, complex cataract surgery

Associate Professor Lawrence Lee is a vitreo-retinal specialist and established City Eye Centre in 2001. Dr Lee has expertise in medical and surgical retinal diseases, with particular interests in the treatment of age-related macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, retinal detachment and eye trauma. He also has expertise in complex cataract surgery, macular hole and epiretinal membrane.

Dr Lee undertook his ophthalmology training in Brisbane and completed a Retinal Fellowship at the Sydney Eye Hospital. He was then awarded the Royal Australian College of Ophthalmologists /Alcon Fellowship to pursue further retinal training with the eminent Professor J. Donald M. Gass at the Ophthalmology Department of the Vanderbilt University Nashville, Tennessee USA. He later worked at the prestigious Moorfields Eye Hospital in London where he was involved in managing complex retinal disorders and vitreoretinal surgery.

 

Dr Lee is the Staff Director of the Department of Ophthalmology at the Royal Brisbane Hospital, as well as an Associate Professor of Ophthalmology at the University of Queensland. He is also a Director of the Queensland Eye Hospital, one of the largest Ophthalmic Day Hospitals in Australia. He is involved with teaching of undergraduate medical students and optometrists, as well as ophthalmology trainee registrars and has published over 100 journal and conference papers.
