iStent® Trabecular Micro-Bypass System

iStent® trabecular micro-bypass system is a FDA-approved device that has been developed to address the limitations of current medical and surgical approach for the treatment of glaucoma. iStent bypasses the trabecular meshwork that may be obstructed and is placed in Schlemm’s canal and potentially improves the outflow of the eye’s natural fluid (aqueous humour) to lower the pressures inside the eye by creating a permanent opening in the trabecular meshwork. Implantation of this stent into Schlemm’s canal allows aqueous humor to drain directly from the anterior chamber into Schlemm’s canal bypassing the obstructed trabecular meshwork.

The iStent Trabecular Micro-Bypass Stent is indicated for use in conjunction with cataract surgery for the control of intraocular pressure in adult patients with mild to moderate open-angle glaucoma currently treated with ocular hypotensive medication.
